4 Months

Last week, Dallin turned 4 months old. He has grown up so much in the past month, it is insane! It seems like he learns something new pretty much every day.

He started eating rice cereal three days ago. Most of it ends up all over him rather than in his stomach, but we're working on it. He just needs practice with the whole spoon thing. It is pretty funny to watch the faces he makes. I haven't gotten a picture of it yet, but I will soon. 

Dallin is still the happiest kid in the world. If someone is talking, Dallin is watching them and smiling; even if that person isn't talking to him or looking at him. He also laughs a ton. He was blessed with his parent's ticklish genes. Every time I change his clothes, he laughs when I take his arms out of the sleeves because it tickles. He loves his Daddy. Jacob is an expert at getting him to laugh.

He is very alert and curious. He is constantly looking around. It's hard to get him to look at me when he's standing on my lap because he is busy trying to twist around to look at everything.  He's like a giant sponge - absorbing everything he possibly can. I think he is going to be smart like his dad. :)

Dallin can now roll over! For the past month, he has fallen over while on his stomach and the momentum has carried him onto his back. I didn't really count that as rolling over. However, on Tuesday, he rolled over on his own from his stomach to back. Then, tonight, he was on his back facing one direction. I was in the kitchen and Jacob was in the living room but he was playing the piano with his back to Dallin. When I came back into the living room, he had turned 90 degrees and rolled over onto his stomach. He was up on his forearms, so I thought Jacob had put him in that position, but he hadn't. Over the next little while, Dallin rolled over a few times.

Dallin dropped from the 50th percentile to the 15th between 2 months and 4 months, so the doctor has me supplementing with formula. I don't like having to do that, but I do feel good knowing that he is getting enough to eat and the nutrition he needs. I checked the level of fat in my milk. The Dr. said that about 30 to 50% of the milk should be fat. Mine was way less than 30% so I think that's why he wasn't growing. For a couple of weeks before his appointment, Dallin had been acting like he wasn't satisfied or getting enough to eat at some feedings. Other times, he was perfectly fine. I can see a big difference in him at feedings now. So whatever was wrong, the formula is definitely helping.

Speaking of formula and baby food, Jacob and I are big fans of Craigslist and KSL. We have bought many items through these websites including our home, car, kitchen table, and chairs. While we were in Denver for Thanksgiving, we found a posting for TONS of formula and baby food and Craigslist. We bought 10 cans of formula, 6 boxes of rice and oatmeal cereal, and 13 containers of babyfood for $60. Everything was unopened and do not expire for at least 6 months. If we bought all that at the store, it would cost about 175 to 200 dollars. Like I said - we love Craigslist and KSL. :)

My friend, Maija-Liisa, is a children's photographer who also does family pictures from time to time. She was so nice to take pictures of us at 9:00 on a Saturday night. Dallin was so good and happy and they turned out great!

My Little Boy is 3 Months!

Yesterday, Dallin turned 3 months old. He just gets cuter and cuter every day!

 He can now laugh! He started doing this last week when I was tickling him and pretending to eat his stomach. It is seriously the cutest thing ever! He is such a happy boy, for which I am grateful!

He weighs about 12 pounds. I need to weigh him again so I'm not 100% sure how much he weighs right now. He is finally starting to fit in his 0-3 Month clothes. I had to go buy some long-sleeved white onsies to wear under his clothes so that he can wear his 0-3 M outfits that are short-sleeved (which is pretty much every one). 

Dallin sleeps about 11 to 12 hours every night! It is awesome! I no longer feel like I have to go to bed right when he does in order to get enough sleep.

He is very observant. He likes to sit facing away from me so he can see everything.

He is extremely slobbery. The neck of his shirt is always wet because of it. It's the worst when he sucks on his hands, which he does all the time.

He loves to stand on my lap while I hold his hands for balance. He always gets the biggest smile when he does it.

If you want him to smile, just whistle. Unless he's really upset. Then it doesn't work. 

2 Months

Dallin is two months old today! Where has the time gone? It went by super fast, but at the same time, I feel like he's always been here. He had his 2 month appointment on Friday, the 24. Here are his stats: Weight - 11 lbs  8 oz, Length - 22 1/2 inches, Head Circumference - 39 cm. I could be wrong on the last one. I left the paper at the Doctors, along with a pacifier, and I don't remember exactly what it was. He hasn't gotten his shots yet. That will be on Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to it..

It is so fun to watch him learn new things and grow! Here are some things I love about our little boy:

- Smiles! At 5 weeks, Dallin smiled a real smile for the first time. It was a Sunday and he made eye contact with me and smiled in response to my smile. Jacob was there to witness it too, so it wasn't just my imagination. Throughout the past 4 weeks, the smiles have become more and more frequent.

- His cooing noises! Some times he just goes on and on... he's already a little chatter box! Tonight was one of those nights. He was sitting in his bouncer chair and looking at the giraffe and elephants that hang in front of him, smiling and cooing his head off.

- Dallin is a pretty good sleeper. Usually he sleeps for about 7 to 8 hours at night. Occasionally, he will wake up around 4 AM, but other than that, it's not too bad. One night last week he slept for 9 1/2 hours! Hopefully he'll start doing that more often!

-He likes to stand up. We will hold him under his arms and let him stand on our laps. He is getting good at holding his head up, and when he stands he get this look on his face like he's concentrating extremely hard.

Dallin Jacob Burdis

Three and a half weeks ago, Dallin was born at 2:13 AM. He weighed 7 lbs 8 oz and wad 21 inches long. He is so adorably sweet and we love him so much! It's amazing how someone so tiny can completely change your life and how you look at things. I love being a mom and time has passed so quickly! I feel like I just barely had him.

The first couple of nights at home were pretty rough, but now he is getting into more of a routine. The past couple of nights he has slept for about 6 hours straight. Hopefully that will continue! Dallin is very strong willed. He tries to kick our hands away when we are changing his diaper and most of the time he cries and screams at the top of his lungs. By the end, his voice is hoarse. I always hope our neighbors can't hear him and think that I'm torturing him! I love watching him when he's falling asleep. He makes the best faces. He smiles a lot and occasionally, a laugh comes out. It is so adorable! I can just sit around all day holding him and it's hard for me to not do that and actually get things done. I am already learning from him. The biggest thing that I am learning is to be patient. Especially when it's the middle of the night and he's wide awake. I have to rock him and eventually he does fall asleep - just not as soon as I want him to. Dallin has brought so much joy into our home and we are so glad he's finally here!

37 and 1/2 Weeks and Random stuff

I can't believe I'm only a couple of weeks from having my baby! Where has the time gone? Since I've been working almost full time the entire pregnancy, it really has gone by fast. I'm glad it has, especially the past couple of months. Yesterday Jacob and I finished setting up the crib and organized the baby room a little bit. It's still not completely done, but I feel so much more prepared now! I was starting to get a little stressed out about it. We also bought the carseat/travelsystem a couple of weeks ago. That was the biggest thing that was stressing me out. I kept worrying that I would have the baby early and we wouldn't have the car seat yet and you can't leave the hospital without one. I was even having dreams about it. There are still a few things that we need to get and I need to pack the hospital bag (should probably do that soon since he could come any day now), but I feel that we have pretty much everything we need for right after he is born. It is weird to think that I only have two weeks left of working. I will probably go back and work part time, but not until September. I'm actually looking forward to having some time off. As much as I love doing hair, it starts to get old when you're mostly doing mens cuts.
Jacob has been playing on a couple of softball teams and a frisbee team for intramurals. Mancrush (the men's softball team) won the championship for spring term. They were estatic since they've been trying to win one for like 3 years. He is loving being able to play sports again. Last summer he had a herniated disk so he couldn't play for a while. He has been taking a couple of classes for his masters program and working about 30 hours a week. Jacob is also the Keyboardist for a cover band that plays for company events and things like that. He loves it and it is really fun to watch them play! There are a lot of talented people in the band. He's been a busy boy this summer! So that's pretty much our life right now : Baby stuff, work, sports, school, and band.

Last week, we found out that Jacob has been accepted to the graduate program he applied for here at BYU! We were pretty confident he would be accepted, but it's nice to know for sure. He will start this fall semester. The program is Instructional Psychology and Technology and he'll emphasize in Second Language Aquisition. He works hard and does very well in school. I am so proud of him for all that he has accomplished!
